Hit a tyre on the motorway last night
« on: 01 December 2011, 10:34 »
As per the title... hit a tyre in the first lane on the m62 @ 65-70mph, minimal damage & for what ever reason my vr cut out and not starting so got recovered home. £150 for roughly 22miles at about 12pm last night

Can i claim of somebody for damages, recovery fee's and loss of earning. Dont seem fair im out of pocket a couple hundred quid for something that wasnt my fault

Or do i just take it on the chin?

I see what the wheel problem is here

I doubt you would find the owner of the tyre as said, would be a wild goose chase, or you could DNA that mother fooker?

My gfs dad hit a length of 4x6 while carrying 80+ in his s2000, so did a few others. He couldn't claim a penny and just had to suck it and see. In the end he claimed on his own insurance as they guaranteed a 'minor' increase next year.

Just suck it up and pay the bill, I don't see how your going to be able to claim from anyone's insurance as you haven't the slightest idea who the tyre belonged to.

They would have had to have changed the tyre at the side of the road. I'm not sure if the information would be available to you but call the AA/RAC/Green Flag and see if they were called out to a road side assistance to change a wheel? Slim chance but other than CCTV you wont have a leg to stand on...

Due to data protection I doubt very much whether the AA etc would pass on any details.

Unfortunately that is what insurance is for.
