Helping out broken down female . . ..

On the way home tonight, about 1/2 a mile out of a village  I came up behind a woman broken down in a VERY dangerous position. Pitch black, no street lights.

You could clearly see ( interior light was on ) that it was a woman with kids in the car.

she was just past one of those stupid traffic calming bollard things, so was causing a queue of traffic both ways.

yet NO ONE was stopping to help. she had been there 20 minutes already.

So I dumped the car in a layby just down the road, and walked back to see if I could help.

Turns out by the smells  the clutch was fubar'd on her 11 plate ovloV estate, so after checking the burning smell wasnt anything worse, pushed it 300 odd yards down the road, then FINALLY managed to stop the traffic to cross the road into the layby.


At no point during this did anyone else offer to help, just sat behind in the queue.

Now is it just me that thinks this country has gone to sh1t and people are just to ignorant, or frightened to stop and help others out ?

I like to help others out when theyre in situations like that, makes me feel good about myself. Although I agree that nobody else ever does it anymore and yes the country has gone to sh!t!

Would I stop yeah have done even when a drunken women flags you down thinking you are a cab and asks you to take her home!

It's the law of deminishing responsibility. The more people there are watching, the less likely someone is to help.

Good on you though Chuff for helping.

I've stopped to help people embedded in hedgerows round where I've lived before.

I would help if I could, I think its nowadays everyone is in a rush to do everything. Probably already running late and getting pissed off by the traffic building up

ive never came across someone in that position, but if i did ide proberbly stop and help her out

I don't think this has anything to do with it Jay, it's to do with the morals and values instilled in you from a young age. I have jumped out the car when a Ford Galaxy was broken down with a woman and her nippers broken down at a junction. Most people drove around her and left her to it.

Again as you Chuff, I was the only one who jumped out, told her what to do to get it moving (it was an auto) and then pushed her across the junction, back across the road and then in to a petrol garage. At least 30 odd cars must have gone past, but no one gave a damn.
