i used to allways stop to help someone but now it's more of a sometimes thing sometimes  and to be honest the chances of me stopping for someone again are less each time.

ive stoped and changed the odd tyer for a bird  once i even got a tyer put on the rim for some bird with a new mini. i've towed the odd car off a dgey bit of road even pulled some kiddy with a beetel up to the workshop and let him mend it in there.

but after last winter it's much less likely to happen.  will certanly never give anyone a tow out of ditch, hedge or just up a hill in the snow ever again,  and very doughtfull if id ever offer any of them a lift ether.

once you've had someone try claim of your insurance because you were trying to pull there car out a ditch when the tow rope snapped and the shackel put a rather big dent in there boot, i even made a massive detour to take the thingys to a B&B  next time they can stay in the car and wait a few days for someone else to come by or try walking.
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

So did it affect your insurance Danny?
I find it difficult to understand how we think I've always thought you did the right thing, even if they didn't or their insurance company made that decision for their client in any court it would have been thrown out on the bases of your intent! Which was a good one!
I still think it was the right decision, but saying that it explains why some would drive on and leave it to break down people with insurance to deal in situations like that?

I would stop but also it depends where they are situated. If your on a busy dual carrageway and see a car at the side of the road with their hazzards on it wouldn't be very safe to just stop and help and you would have to be pretty eagle eyed to spot if it was a female with kids in the car. Alot of people, and quite rightly so, are reluctant to put their own safety in jepoardy on a busy road. All in all it depends on the scenario. I have stopped before regardless of gender or the presence of children, but not stopped for everyone I see.

people are just too frightened to stop and help others out ?

discuss

I think this is the reason why some people won't stop for anyone or in some cases anything !

I stopped to help a lad who was broken down on the bypass, couldn’t get his car going so I said I would be happy to give him a lift ! First thing he said when he got in the car was “don’t worry I’m not a serial killer” , it was about a 15 minute drive to his house and he was really grateful and quite surprised that someone was prepared to give a complete stranger a lift.

When I did my first aid training we were told of a case where someone was walking along the street when she noticed an old fella on the floor so she rushed over to help. Turned out the chap was having a heart attack and had fallen in a way that caused his airway to become blocked, she duly helped out and the bloke did survive although with some minor brain damage resulting from a degree of oxygen starvation. The family of the man who was undoubtedly saved by the passer by then attempted to sue her claiming the damage he sustained was her fault, in light of this they suggested that if we ever thought we would react in the same way and attempt to help we should get ourselves insured. The claims made by the old mans family were quite rightly dismissed but the girl who stopped to help understandably said she would never help a stranger again !

They way I look at it is this, if it was me I would like to think someone would help so I try and practice what I preach !
