doesn't bother me 8v or 16v, i just bought it from a bloke at work, he spent all money doing it up,, now he got a 16v and now he's doing that up.. and he done a good job on it, and your right bout insurance too, my 4 years no claims had ran out by 3 months due to not having a car on road for 2 years..so got to start all again,,  :cry: :cry: and its the nippiest car i've had, had a 2ltr mg montego ages ago, golf alot quicker than that too.

16v is awesome when you've been driving 8v for ages. the top end is balistic and alive 4.5k+

I would be embarrased to be beaten by an 8v in my 16v (any of them) Never had an 8v get close to beating me yet!! 
Would be nice to have a bit more power but after putting an MI16 into A 309 I CAN'T BE BOTHERED WITH THE HASSLE!!

Nothing wrong with a Golf Driver, Matey!!!
Only got it cos the insurance on a 1.8GTI was immense as a first car!!!!
