8v compared to 16v
« on: 05 May 2005, 00:38 »
I owned a Mk2 16v for a year before someone pulled out in front of me and wrote it off in March. Yesterday I bought a 8v as I found a 16v in the condition I wanted was hard to come by. I will admit straight off the 16v is faster but only if it is driven hard in the right gear! The 8v is an easier car to drive and it pulls very well from 2,500 rpm. This post is not for an argument but after owning the 2 I must say they are both fantastic cars and with my 8v being in mint condition I prefer it.

My second choice was a 16v in metallic black but when an 8v came up 25miles from my house in mint condition i couldn't turn it down. See I stay north of the border and many of the good examples of the mk2 Gti are in England. I will be posting pictures of my new one when it stops Raining!!

ere we go again.....

I personally bought an 8v because it was to be an daily driver (in traffic and towns too) and because it was close to me and minty.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both an 8v and 16v, you just have to pick the one you prefer or suits your needs.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.
