New golf gti power issue

Hello. I hope someone can help me please...

I just bought a 2002 2.0 gti golf. When I'm changing gear or when I rev the engine, it takes a couple of seconds for the revs to drop. I'm new to golfs but this car doesn't seem to have the power I'd expect it to have. Any ideas what I could do? Maybe this is normal?

2.0 golfs are known to be slow, 1.8t is the better option

unfortunatly the 2.0 gti 8v are not powerfull at all, there 115 bhp standard

and as the above poster said the 1.8 20v turbo is the better option which is 150 bhp standard

Put it simple they're awful, sorry.

Thanks for your comments. In a way, I'm glad for the peace of mind that if it's going slow, it's supposed to be that way! Just wish I'd known a bit more about Golf's before I bought this one. At least I'll know for next time!

Why do they put a gti badge on the 2.0 if its slow  . Does the non turbo  1.8 have gti on the back ,and what bhp is that, 110

1.8 non-turbo is 125bhp

Doesn't need to be fast to be a GTi.

It just needs to be capable of Grand Touring, which it is and be injected, also which it is.

agreed not as if it has an r badge on it 

i had one and was a nice step up from a 1.3s clio lol. But once i stepped up to a turbo i can see why ppl slate them for speed but tbh not sure if that car and engine was ever built for speed? Thats y they had 1.8T gti?
