Made a biiiiiiig mess
« on: 18 November 2011, 18:32 »
Well i work at a landrover garage so we can use the ramps at any time we want. which is a huuuuuge bonus... anyway before i lowered the car it would fit on the four post lifts, which is all we have no problem at all.

We have skids that stretch from either end of the ramps for jacking the landys up, as the normal four post jacks are no use for getting all four wheels up anf the weight etc....

So because its lowered decided to shift the skids to the sides..... bad idea... kerbed BOTH front wheels....

Any ideas to what i can do to sort them?? Its only the edges as 40 profile tyres  but all the way round the wheels... you cant really notice it tbh but i know its there which does my head in haha!!!!

Gutted dosnt describe it :-P

bonus point thou is i seam sealed the whole thing and welded up the bad bits... and then undersealed the whole lot... so could eat your dinner off the bottom of it now ;-)

Aint that a beaach, you could probably get the yellow off with a liquid rubbing compound or maybe T cut,but the rest (suck teeth) could try some fine wet and dry then polish back to a finish but i imagine the wheels will need to be refinished to removed all traces of damage

Yeah some of the damage is quite deep....

Worst bit is two of the people I work with were doing a clutch on an Itegra at the time... Their laughter only made me feel worse!!!!

Is it easy enough to refurb yourself??? Im happy enough to do it. Just concerned about paint peeling/using correct paint etc.... Is there any guides to refurbing your own wheels??

Iv got a scabby set of 15" bbs alloys to put on in the meantime so not fussed about time etc.

Spoke to my girlfriend about it... She cant even notice it!!!!

Im no expert, but if you got half an idea how to spray then have a go ,yours would be an easy wheel to deal with, what i would do is remove the tyres, sand the edge of the rim untill all the scrapes have gone, flat the whole wheel with wet and dry, etch primer where the bare alloy is visible then use a 2k primer all over,2k basecoat then clearcoat, like i say im no pro but i did my own and got good results.....

Going to try a refurb myself then. Not sure on the bbs or audi wheels thou.

Iv done a bit of painting, but not alot. Whats 2k stuff? Probably a really stupid question but as far as my paint knowledge goes halfrauds is as far as it goes :-P
