I looked at it like this:
((20 + 20) x 0) + 1 = 1

They were discussing this on radio two yesterday, unfortunately I wasn’t paying any attention, I made it 1 and then checked it on the calculator which also makes it one. I take it that is not the right answer if so please put us out of a misery. :undecided:

I dont understand why brackets are being added when there were none in the original question, how is the answer not 1?

20+20 is 40, then times 40 by 0 which is 0, then add 1, which makes a total of 1. Is that not correct? This could be fun with some of the smart arses at work  :evil:

As said just because the brackets are there doesn't mean the rules of mathematics shouldn't be followed..it's not 20+20.....

Regardless of them being there or not, it's always multiples before additions.

Even putting it in to a calculator brings it out as 21. :smiley:
