What happens if?
« on: 31 October 2011, 10:14 »
Im 95% sure my ICM unit has fried on my 1999 1.8T, car will have bad idle(very up down not actually stalled yet though) and decreased power going through the gears. Ive ordered a new one from ebay but im wondering what effect it will have on the car if i keep driving it in current state.

I came to above conclusion by reading other posts, previous owner fitted K&N ind kit so the ICM was just left floating around in the bay (guys a tool) when it was attached to side of air box to prevent over heating i recon.

Any tips on this would be awesome as all ive had is problems with my new golf so far all cheap fixes though which is ideal. If any one has had the same problem where did you relocate the ICM unit to keep cool?

Thanks

I have the normal air box thinking of just fitting it back to standard not really sure my dirty old cone is doing much tbh. Theres a bit under were the airbox was i think its the wheel arch Bosch say the unit should be glued using heat conductive paste to some thing cooling ie air box or some thing simelar i think that will do nicely.

Has yours ever over heated?
