Sticky Lifters 1.8T?

Anyone had any issues with sticky/tappy lifters/hydraulics on a 1.8T AGU head?

I have a 7200rpm rev limiter and hit it in first today,  dropped down with a little pop from exhaust (as it normally does) however it has now started tapping when you give revs on the engine.  Sounds a lot like the lifters in the engine and its perfectly quiet on idle and not lumpy in any way.  Doesnt burn any oil or anything bad.

Any clues/ideas?

maybe a few have been starved of oil at the high revs?

Hmm maybe.  Its a good theory too.
Surely they should get their oil again shortly after though?

lifters are very temperamental. If they get starved of oil the spring can wear the metal inside. The hardest part is finding the thing, we have 20 to choose from lol

On my old XR2 I put a brand new set in with my fast road cam and ran them in as per the instructions. Within 10 miles one had worn to the point the spring had started to come through and it was spitting fuel back up through the carb 

Put a replacement in, never had any trouble with it after that so I put it down to the oil way being blocked

Is the oil pick up pipe all ok.

I had a look at the elsawin method for testing them and the method looks pretty simple.  Gonna stick a engine flush in and maybe swap oil see what/if anything is in it and put some fresh in.

Wouldnt want to buy a new set of lifters like

If it has never been changed for the sake of £12 I would fit a new one.

what oil are you using too?

out of interested tho, what kind of boost does yours hold at 7,2? :S

Roughly around 10-12psi -ish.  My boost gauge under-reads by about 3psi.

Its got 5w-30 oil in it.  Might drop it and put some 5W-40 in or 10W-30

Plus I would only use 5W-40 Quantum Platinum and nothing else.
