Octavia is a Golf in drag; albeit better built in some respects

It's just a Golf with a fat-ass!
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Surly that would be full of biased views though, no?

Nope it is a great site, very helpfull plus they do not have a problem with people that have switched to other makes.

But surely it's the same as the Bora. Shared components and floorpan.
Golf + boot = Bora = Octavia = Seat Toledo

Toledo

I think the interior on the vrs is nice, wouldn't say it feels cheaper than some of the mk4's at all, if anything I'd say it beats the walnut by a mile

Buy one you won't regret it! Far more car for your money. A similar spec'd mk4 would cost a deal more.
Only thing I prefer out of the mk4 would be the dash illumination but that can be easily swapped.

Oh god I forgot about the walnut....

Dash illumination would probably be the first thing I'd change, sad I know but I hate Green in modern cars, also not a fan of amber either.  My daily has a fantastic dash at night but its ruined by old man amber!

Regardless of what I've said so far, the Octavia is a fantastic car and there's a lot of it for your money.  There are differences from a golf that I am personally not keen on but that doesn't make it a lesser car overall.  As I've said before, it depends what you want from a car.
