don't know exactly where the thermostat is located but i'm pretty sure that the thermostat is your problem and replacing it will solve the problem

P.s it has the common symptoms of raising to 90 in traffic and then drops to 70 when i start driving.

Cheers alex. Did you read my last reply to this post? Of the temp on 90 when in traffic and then drops to 70 when on the move.

Could be an air lock.

thermostat is below the water pump and behind the PAS pump.  You don't need to disconnect the PAS to change the t-stat, just move some pipes out of the way.

see dans guide - http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed/Campingart/jettatech/coolingmaint/index.htm

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

get a VW stat or www.vwspares.com

50/50 coolant and water, and its the G12 I believe.   Get geninue stuff - not generic!!

You don't need to change the expansion tank unless you particularly want to, or its particularly gunked up.

If its all brown, you might want to invest in some rad flush aswell.
