Can I just fit a new front panel with twin fan, like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GOLF-MK3-FRONT-PANEL-TWIN-FAN-FIXING-1H0805594L-NEW-/250887756680?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a6a135b88 in my 1992 Golf GTI 2.0 single fan panel??? All the screws and such are the same number and are fitted in the same holes?

If is possible...Is it an easy task or maybe not worth it? what about the electronics involved? Would a single relay as the one have now (picture my old broken one):

will be enough and would only have to bridge it somehow to the other fan? What about the radiator and such...if there's a link explaining the whole overdeal I appreciated.

Thanks

Firstly, that is crazily over priced and is literally just the plastic housing, I saw one sell for less than a fiver on ebay just a few days ago with both fans and motor.
The twin fan from certain 16v GTi's or a straight swap and run perfectly well on the existing 8v fan loom, the VR twin fan runs a different relay module and wiring so that would be a no go for you.
Both items just run one motor and the 2nd fan runs on a belt from the first one.

as Ben jam in says..

We swapped my single fan set up with the twin fan set up that was on a 16v car with i used for bits when we did the S3 conversion on mine

All i swapped was the whole front panel, loom just plugged in as normal and it all works

My 8v has twin fans on it for air con, front panel looks exactly the same as the one in the link but my second fan is belt driven :undecided: :undecided:
I am sure Ive seen this same set up before on early 8v's with Ac option

I'm pretty sure you can swap the single for a double without touching anything else, as the second fan is just driven by a belt attached to the first one so in affect there is still only 1 fan being operated

I wouldn't go changing the control units as (at least from my experience) its hard finding the right one, there are literally loads of different ones some have 2 plugs some just one, and they all have different pin layouts. since playing around with mine my fan has stopped working all together!
20vt conversion, sig pic coming soon!

Dan you can becasu its what i did

The VR has a different plug and control unit tho, but along as you get one from a GTI that had aircon and twin fans, it will be direct swap (just the front panel) and no need to change out else

That's what I said! just change the front panel don't touch the control unit (unless I'm misreading your post)

Only reason I had to change my control unit was because I went from using an 8v loom to a 16v loom so they had different plugs
