Hi,

I have just joined this forum, and the amount of useful info is great. So thanks

I have just brought my MK6 GTI after my MK5, i had it serviced at a VW main dealer and explained the problem about the comming home function not working. They didnt even know about having to flash the lights to activate it before getting out of the car. Neither did i until i did some reading in the user manual. It really annoys me.

They wanted to book it in for the week to check out the problem, i will take great pleasure in taking in a print screen of how to sort the problem on VCDS, so much for main dealers checking out stuff using thier VCDS.

Noticed a Mk5 GTI the other night when the guy got out and locked the car his lights stayed on for 20 to 30 secs? My lights come on when I unlock at night but would like if it done the same when locking it. Any ideas how to?

Cheers
Kenneth, you're lazy like me. I couldn't be bothered to read the manual neither !
As the boys & girls have said, you need to flash your beams and possibly leave on auto (not sure about that though).
However, mine worked after turning the ignition off...

Is this something that a simple bod like me can do, or does it have to be done by professionals?

Funny thing happened last night. I went out to the car at around 6pm, unlocked the car and expected the lights to come on, but they didn't. Got in, started the car and the headlights light up (switch set to Auto). Turned off the engine, got out, locked the car, unlocked the car, but no headlights again. So locked it again, held my hand over the light sensor, unlocked it and low and behold the lights came on. Tried it again without covering the sensor and guess what? No lights. Started the car, lights came on, thought "feck it" and fecked off.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Better reading that than me trying to explain.

I thought I'd try this feature last night when I parked up in town, surprisingly worked, but then had someone run up to me and say I'd left my lights on.  And then just as I was saying "ahhh!" they turned themselves off. Magic!

So VAG-COM works
People really are nice!
