Just Bought a MK3!
« on: 09 October 2011, 22:26 »
Today i bought a mk3 2.0 16v to replace my 2.0 8v mk4. Very happy!

Got a few questions though.

Whats the best things to do for performance?

How low can you go? Does it have any problems like the mk4 ARB?

Guess how much i paid for it, 87k, 3 door 1996 ;)

And have i made the right decision!?

Personally I think it's a very good choice to go for the Mark 3. As for performance I would just leave it alone. Lowering would be 60mm max on 17inch rims. As for the price it all depends on condition, extras, tax and mot and service history but I would expect to pay around the 800 quid mark for a decent example ??

nice upgrade  sounds like a good choice

performance wise dont expect massive gains without spending alot of money without supercharging or turbo'ing it you will need to spend 4k+ to reach 200bhp simple mods to get it better a good stainless system a enclosed filter with cold air feed and a good service will see you around the 155bhp -160bhp can go extra lightened fly wheel ported polished head matching inlet etc etc dont expect massive gains  you dont really need massive power to have fun in it mine was rolling roaded at 154.7 bhp few weeks ago at carbon chiptuning rr day and tbh it keeps up with a few more modern cars including a stock 1.8t mk4

You can go as low as coilovers will let you tbh on 15" 195/45 tyres im at about 90mm front 80mm back i think  :undecided: 17" need winding up abit with brand new tyres as i just found  not sure about arb probs mk4's have but just make sure your cv boots are in good order and might be worth renewing the drop links and tierod ends and also ball joints for peace of mine also poly bush everything as mine is makes it much more exciting

I reckon you paid 1150 depending on service history etc and yes you've made the perfect decision ever need any help give me a shout and i will try and direct

Its got no tax but brand new mot. Perfect paintwork and an immaculate interior. Very pleased, bought it for £700 which i thought was a steal. Little bit of service history but you can tell its been looked after. Cam belt and service soon :). The only thing i can think of for performance is a de cat really as i know N/A engines cant really be tuned. Just need to sell my mk4 now!

Lol those ebay chips are resistors in a plastic box, very bad for your engine!
