As above for a 2004 1.4 8v engine. yes i know it's french and should be scrapped but it's my girlfriends and we entrusted a cambelt change to a recommended (friend of a friend) mobile mechanic and he timed it up wrong and has bent all the valves. So, i'm fixing it myself and need torque settings for all things relevant to removing the head and refitting. If anyone owns a haynes manual that could sort me out that info then i'd be really grateful.

Cheers guys

I do have autodata that covers most stuff if you have the engine code.
However, if you're going to take on a big job, i would suggest buying a manual.

Your sure he timed it up wrong? Had something similar on my old 106Gti, turned out the crankshaft woodruff key was fubar and had sheared prior to me taking the cams out to re-build the lifters. I put the cams back in without paying heed to what I thought was a visual illusion but turned out to be the crank pulley turning independant to the crank whilst I was turning it over to get the timing right and hey presto, once back together it bent 8 valves  :undecided:. Worth checking anyway whilst your doing the work  . If that looks fine I would be asking for the labour money back at the very least!

cheers for the responses.

basically he timed it up approx 60 degrees out and turned it over before realising the mark on the crankshaft pulley means nothing in relation to the timing of the engine. he then rang peugeot who told him how to do it correctly (lock the flywheel using a punch through a hole in the bellhousing.

by then the damage was done. at the time i didn't realise what he'd done and he told me that he be back the following day to sort it. the next day i got a text to say the keys were on top of the wheel and there was a business card of a garage who would fix it. i can no longer get in contact with him as he won't answer his phone. He was a friend of my gf's auntie and he was recommended.

Even though i paid cash and there is no paperwork i have a conversation on facebook between him and my missus confirming the work to be done and how much it was going to cost. i can cross reference that with a bank statement and cctv of him turning up and doing the work. thinking about small claims court and inland revenue to really hurt him.

basically i'm doing the work with the help of a friend who used to be a mechanic. we have all the tools and new parts and i've already stripped down the engine. just need torque settings for anything that should be tightened up to exact specifications.

engine has only done 60k.
