£60 unfortunately  and i had to leave the car with them for most of the day !
a rip off i tried all the locksmiths in the yellow pages and couldn't find any who could do something t do with the code being 'fixed' or 'rolling' one of them anyway. It definatly hurt the wallet for what it i but i couldn't risk having no key at the end of the day!

Did they give you your code number ? Because getting hold of that is the time consuming thing.
Unless things have changed since I worked at a VW main dealer back in 2001

1. plug in reader to get immobilize serial code
2.fill out form confirming owner details etc etc and fax it to VW at  MILTON KEYNES
3.Wait for 10 minutes or sometimes a whole bloody day until they decide to fax back the code number
4.When the code is finally obtained it takes all of 1-2 minutes to re program both keys .

Make sure you get the code from them if you haven't already got it , so if there is a next time they should be able to do it while you wait
This is the only reason I can see that they could justify the differences in prices .
Mind you we used to charge 1/4 hour max + price of the key .
