has anyone replaced a flip key recently?
lost one of my keys ages ago in the house somewhere and nearly lost the only key left yesterday on a day out- luckily an honest bloke behind me told me it fell out of my pocket on the grass !
real eye opener i would have been in real trouble!
anyway i'll stop waffling now- scene loads of 2nd hand keys on ebay recently and blank blades. people advertising therm say get them cut locally rather than dealers? but i always thought keys had immobilizer chips in them do you have to still go to dealers and pay for a new chip or can local key cutters do chips?
i def need to get another key it could have been very pricey yesterday

You'd still need to take it to the stealers to get it mapped to the immobilizer whcih costs £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£'s!

Yeh the key is cheap bit, only really cost about £5 (or summit like that) but you have to get them encoded sop the immobiliser knows its you and not some theiving scumbag.

the blade can be cut anywere the key can be programed to work i.e open the doors etc by your self but the immobiliser has to be programmed i think via vagcom/or one of there other fancy computers. it aint that cheap. but hay if you aint got a key for your pride and joy then what.

Any one has Opened that key to replace battery, cleane it...?

any hints? beacause the soft part covers all the key and im afraid to break it if i try to open it

i replace my battery every year in my key fob, it comes to pieces easy mate, theres nothing to break so dont worry!!

sorted one out for my self a fortune for the immobilizer part to be programed to the car but I'm sure it would have been a fortune like someone else said if i had lost both keys.
Anyway i was talking to my mum about it and she wondered if she could have flip key for hers.

did you have to take it to vw cos i lost one of mine for my passat.

i got second hand keys off ebay (1 for me mum) got key blades cut local. i had to go to vw fro my immobilizer to be sorted but my mums was a straight swap out of her standard key
