ECU Issues - MAP Sensor
« on: 05 October 2011, 01:35 »
I'm having a bit of a nightmare with my Golf at the minute and after taking it to a garage that I previously regarding as having the ability to diagnose more 'complex' problems drove home thinking all was good only for the car to go back into limp mode after a few minutes of driving.

Made even worse by the fact I've paid £70 for their computer to be plugged in and ECU reset - resulting in sod all!  £30 ODB scanner I have in the glovebox could of done the same job and has done many times over.

They did however manage to get the seized and airgun tightened locking wheel nut out of the wheel that has a puncture

Anyway rant over!

The problem is no matter how many times the ECU is cleared instantly getting this fault code back.

16622/P0238/000568 - Manifold Pressure/Boost Sensor (G31): Signal too High

And then after driving for a couple of minutes this fault code comes up which sends the ECU into hard limp mode

16490/P0106/000262 - Manifold / Barometric Pressure Sensor (G71) / (F96): Implausible Signal

Wiring has (allegedly) been checked by the garage found to be fine and before it was in I tried a couple of MAP sensors - one off me mates golf thats running fine but the same faults codes came up with that sensor on mine, same with an ebay special. Both worked fine on me mates 1.8t Golf

Starting to suspect there could be a problem with the ECU itself for whatever reason. I have had the 16490 fault code in the past but thought nothing of it as cleared the ECU and no codes came back up, even replaced the MAP sensor with a Bosch to be on the safe side back in March this year and had no problems until last week.

Anyone had similar problems in the past?

Why not pick up s/h sensors, fit them and clear the codes and see what happens.

have tried a few sensors with no luck

had VCDS on today and the fault codes are coming up once the car is started up, clear DTCs with the engine running and they do not come back all runs spot on.

bought a 2nd ECU and will be visiting the Carbon wizards to have it cloned - hopefully this will solve the problem
