Some Advice / Help
« on: 03 October 2011, 18:33 »
After buying my first golf MK4 GTI Turbo 2 weeks ago I am now ready to start sorting out a few common/not so common problem's so sorry if i ask for to much Help..
Problem 1.. Side Light bulb Blown, now sorted after taking off the front bumper I also changed the the Orange indicator bulbs for some Chrome bulbs.

Sorted

Problem 2  On replacing headlamp and bumper I checked all was working (Daylight) . But i noticed when i used the car to go to work today the headlight adjust (up/down) was not working on the headlight (passenger side)i replaced the side light bulb in.. Have i done something wrong when removing the headlight from the Car.

Problem 3.. I have all the keys with the car (3 keys plus Master) The remote does not open or close the car. I use one of the spare keys to open the drivers door and to start the car up. Now if i open the drivers door and dont put the key into the ignition and turn on the ignition within 30 or so seconds the Alarm goes off.

Problem 4 I can only open the boot using the key (car open or closed)

Problem 5 I remember reading about this at some point, can someone link me to this .. The car's temp will only go to about 75 and not 90 even on a long run Help with this please.

Advise now please.. Can the coil packs be changed on these 1.8t engines so i can do away with the big bolt square box type bolt down coil pack's.

Problem 5.. The Puddle light on drivers door and roof lights don't come on when i open the drivers door but do on the passenger door.. I have changed the bulb in the puddle light and all the roof lights are fine and work when switched on/off..

Any links to these problems will help saves me asking all the time.

Thanks All

How do Colin

Problem 4 - boot switch has most likely bit the dust

Problem 5 is either the thermostat or temp sender

Problem 6 is most likely the door module and is approx £100 from VW

Coilpacks - ring VW with your reg number and see if your call is eligible for new ones under the recall.  The same applies to your A4   But the bolt down ones are the best ones to have

Let me know when you want it scanned and we'll point you in the right direction :afro:

The Puddle light on drivers door : its the micro switch on lock of door mine did this. You can get a new one or use my cheap fix  :lipsrsealed: .get a screw driver and hammer .Put the screw driver in a screw head that holds the door lock in and tap it with hammer until light comes on .

My man Rhyso. I need to do most of the work on the Golf myself as having blown the budget on this car, so Links to DIY will help in a big way. I will get the parts from TPS.

Lets get it scanned to confirm the other faults before you part with your hard earned

Re-reading problem 3 I might be able to recode your keys as its possible they've lost sync with the car
