Dash and door speakers
« on: 22 April 2005, 20:09 »
Can I run the dash and door pods off the same output from the head unit?  At the moment have spliced and connected, but quality not great.  Head is a 4x45 JVC, and at the moment have standard speakers in dash and the Nokia door ones which came with the grilles.

Would I be better off with some mids and tweeters?!  What about two new sets?  Do I need a crossover for components?

Confused! :undecided:

simple, cheapish solution would be to get a set of new full range (2 or 3 way) speakers for the door pocket position and give up on the dash top ones.

a bit more money, a set of components, that would come with the required crossovers. the mid would go in the doors and then the tweeters could be fitted either:
further up the door card
into the backs of the wing mirror plastic trim (like mine)
or into the dash top position

not too tricky hopefully :)

it's easy to make your own door pockets to take a larger speaker. I've started the how to in this section. :)

Hi all - so to fir some 5 1/4" speakers where teh door pockets are, I need to remove the pockets and cut holes in the door, or is there something I can mount them too?

the grilles as per my previous post act as the mounting, depending on depth of speaker you use, you may have to cut door card for clearance.
