Help with strange issue please - AGU 1.8t

This has been an ongoing issue, but because it is intermittent, I have left it. I wanted to post this a while back, but I just wanted to make sure I am not going mad, so I have been monitoring this issue for a while and hope someone can shed some light on this one please?

Each time, the petrol gage reaches the point in the below pic and I accelerate fairly briskly, the car would pick up speed for a couple of seconds then holds back as if I pressed on the brakes. Their has been times when the engine seemed it was going to turn off. Only way I can get out of this is to either let go off the gas and then back on or pump the gas a couple of times. I have had two close shaves in the past when someone has been following behind me, I go and accelerate and this issue happens.

VAG-COM does not bring up any issues unfortunately. Anyone have any ideas what this could be?

abit of an odd 1 there. maybe fuel pressure incorrect

try a different fuel pump. ALL of the mk4 platform petrols use the same pump so you shouldn't have any problem finding one

During acceleration only or is it when hard braking and hard cornering?

Pump could be on its way out, when was fuel filter changed last?

It only happens under acceleration.

The fuel pump was replaced back in July 2010 and the fuel filter was replaced in February this year with a full service.

Poor return feed/flow not keeping the swirl pot topped up.  Try going around a tight around about 3 or 4 times when the fuel is low and see is she cuts back on power.


Did we fit a new pumpd or used unit?

You guys did not replace the pump. I took it to a garage near my work to have a new one fitted. When you guys had the car afterwards to put stage 2 back on, you guys replaced a hose as it had a kink in it and you replaced the fuel filter as it was covered in brown gunk.

I will try what you suggested tomorrow Nick before I refill the car up and see what happens. Thanks.
