i had the same problem with an Audi A3, dealer tried telling me it was the way i sat. So i went to another dealer and they swapped the seats.

Hope they do the right thing. I know a place that can re-stitch it, but why payout for VWs error.

I've made it look a bit better by pushing the torn stitches out of view.
However, a seat base change is still required.

I think the second picture only looks better as it is out of focus and blurry compared to the first.
My main concern is if they changed the seat base then the shade of the fabric would be different to that of the back as well as the passenger side.
Do you know what would be involved if it were to be stitched?

wow, there's been a lot of Metro-sexual-ness going on round here, talk of stitching techniques and tight bottoms.

Even a very svelte 11 stone has greater mass due to downward movement when sitting down!
I would tell you its wear and tear!

Done for you. Looks worse.

I'll check this Saturday how much it would cost to re-stitch it, that is, if it can be done.

I don't agree with you that it is wear and tear. That particular area of the seat has no contact with my thighs, is the least stressed and on careful examination more and more of the stitching is coming loose. Bad workmanship.

I would unpick your repair, and be down at the dealers politely suggesting that they fit a new cover.

I don't understand why some dealers will try to turn people away, whilst others will just get on and make the claim. It's not as if the dealers will be paying for it. It's another job for them, even if it is VW paying the bill.

Because if they go ahead and do it and VW warranty say well you shouldn't of done it they fine them 25 times the cost of what they invoiced VW for.........

I wasn't suggesting that they should just do it without having a claim authorised. Some dealers will just say no without even asking the question.
