Repmap worth it or not ?
« on: 10 September 2011, 16:34 »
Hi i am new to the forum and was told to talk to you guys, i have just brought a 2000 plate golf 1.8t gti. It has come with some dyno print outs showing it is putting out 166bhp. I dont no if its ever had a remap is there any way of telling ? i think it has an r32 exhaust but not sure on other mods, will my bhp improve if i did a custom remap with you ? or do i need to do other mods before getting a remap. I just want to be on the 200bhp mark

Thanks Guys

If its putting out 166bhp then it won't be remapped, its more likely that it is making a little more than stock power & has been put on an optimistic dyno.

What engine code is it? Depending upon that you should see 200bhp with a remap as long as your car is running well to begin with, i.e. no boost leaks etc. It's also advisable to upgrade to a forge 007p d/v with yellow spring when you get the map done.

Your best bet is to speak to the tuners on this forum & see what they recommend, personally I'd recommend Carbon Chiptuning, they mapped my car, they are great guys & the car is now an animal!

Engine code will be on a sticker under the carpet in the boot or inside the service book. It is likely to either be agu or aum. It would be worth looking at your d/v to see what brand it is and which spring is in it.

Main difference is the turbo. AGU has a KO3 AUM has a KO3S which remaps better. There are a number of differences but thats the main one.

Take a read of this, it will help - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=40194.0

Mine is AUM and other than an uprated d/v with a remap it produced 204bhp & 240lb/ft
