TYRES shaving on inside rear (same tyre)
« on: 07 September 2011, 22:41 »
Since April 2010 I have to have fitted a total of 4 tyres on the rear drivers side, The same tyre has worn (shaved) on the inside. But 4 tyres in 16 months is a tad expensive. Anyone know why this keeps happening, I would like to point out I have had the full monty on diagnostic balancing etc. etc.
Thanks

Bent spindle, or bent rear beam, the sort of damage that you may get by hitting the curb in the ice, or snow... or another car hitting the wheel!  There is a possibility that it maybe the bearing, but I'm sure that you'll have noticed the noise by now
Get the car to a reputable garage that has decent geometry checking equipment, for a full alignment diagnosis

Shaved? As in something's cutting it?
80% of your posts are total tripe, as they are mostly replies to sh1te posts created by the morons that, unfortunately this forum attracts.

OK lets start again. I would like to know value of my car in January 2010. The car was involved in a rather bad accident, I felt it should have been written off BUT car was valued higher than repairs. Hence why car was repaired but I have had more than a few problems since I got it back in April 2010. The car in question is.................

VW Golf GTI (115 BHP) 5 door hatchback, petrol, 1984 CC, 2 axle rigid body, RED
First Registered in 9.1.2003.

The car was valued at £4,400 in January 2010. Repairs came to £3,800. I believed the car to be worth £3,500 in January 2010.

As on another post, my rear tyre, drivers side has had to be replaced 4 times since I got the car back in April 2010. The last tyre having been replaced 2 days ago.
I then had the car put through a vehicle allignment test. Which once again stated the car was alligned and why the tyre kept wearing on the inside was a mystery.

I hope someone can assist me. I feel by finding out the value of the car in January 2010, at the time it had 75,000 on the clock, it will be a start.
Clearly there is something wrong with this vehicle, for it to keep wearing the tread on the rear inside tyre.

Thanks

No the car is as it was when it left the production line, no alterations, no add ons, no nothing. I am very perplexed as to why this rear has scrubbed 4 tyres since April 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take it somewhere else for a full geometry check... the "toe" may still be correct, but the camber may be a degree or so out, causing wear in the inside edge over time
If the "toe" is incorrect, then "toe out" will cause the tyre to wear on the inside edge.. and vice versa
In most cases, a new stub axle, that is designed to bend, will sort the job out

The fact it has had a heavy knock answers a lot tbh.
