is it lowered, can it be scrubbing on the arch?
No the car is as it was when it left the production line, no alterations, no add ons, no nothing. I am very perplexed as to why this rear has scrubbed 4 tyres since April 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact it has had a heavy knock answers a lot tbh.

Absolutley. If the car has had a knock, anything could be out of true.

Take it somewhere else for a full geometry check... the "toe" may still be correct, but the camber may be a degree or so out, causing wear in the inside edge over time
If the "toe" is incorrect, then "toe out" will cause the tyre to wear on the inside edge.. and vice versa
In most cases, a new stub axle, that is designed to bend, will sort the job out

Thom

Thankyou, apparantly it has been taken to the best of the best for a full geometry check! I was told a new axle was fitted, along with new suspension, etc. etc. not that I received any paperwork due to this being the insurance job for the party which drove into my Golf whilst stationary.
I just want to know why 4 tyres have scrubbed out, but to be honest no one seems to know or in reality want to know.

Well you've had plenty of viable suggestions.

take it to a 4 wheel aligment center.

there kit will show that that wheel isn't pointing in the same direction as the rest of them.

all you have to do them is work out what bent, rear beams bend very easaly, stub axels also bend easyer than youd think
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

well if you have had the alignment checked a few times and they say there is nothing wrong either the cannot work there equipment or they are telling you lies, a quick diy way to check camber i to park on flat level surface an take a spirit level to the wheel, hold i plumb an measure into the top of the wheel do this on both side and if one side is bigger than the other then you know you have a major problem, it doesnt take much to fuc up your alignment and scrub tyres.

i had the alignment set up on my van after fitting the coilovers i then decided it was to low and raised it 20mm and i started to scrub the front tyres so fitted higher profile tyre and lowered it again
