oil seal replacement on transmission o/s
« on: 05 September 2011, 20:09 »
hi guys,
some help would be appreciated on this one, i wanted to replace the oil seal on the transmission, its the one on the offside/ driver side which sits behind the cv joint. basically the query is im not sure if the cup left attached to the transmission when you remove the cv joint can be removed by hand or needs to be pulled off with a special puller. basically when all the assembly is removed you can see there is a rubber cover of some sort in the centre which i presume hides a nut possibly but when you try and pry it up it seems that it will get damaged and need replacing, is this right? (as in one use type part)

help on changing this would be appreciated!

I've never seen this cap before, but when you remove the driveshaft via the 6 bolts on the inner cv joint there is an Allen bolt in the middle. Undo that (probably behind the cap) and the cup will pull out by hand. I'm a mechanic and have never come across this cap before so I can only assume it's a dust cover. Remember to top the box oil back up!
Hope this helps, Mike
