rear coilivers/shocks
« on: 04 September 2011, 15:37 »
Hi Guys,

I'm changing all my coilovers as they're sh!t, the fronts i'm fine with, going to borrow an impact gun from hire station for the top nut, but my query is, how can i undo the rear top nut without the shock spinning, when installing, i done by hand and just used mole grips and a spanner, but every guide i read just says undo it, no mention of shock spinning, am i doing something wrong?

All you should need is a spanner and molegrips like you said :) Thats all I used!

The rear shock should have a small square part at the top that you can hold with a small spanner.

Iv'e changed loads of shocks on mk3 Golf.Iv'e not yet had one that spun when trying to undo the top nut,nor have i ever had to use anything to hold the centre shaft.I just undo them while the car is still on the ground, using a slightly curved spanner and wack it on the first turn to jolt the nut from full lock.

Do'nt forget to reset your camber on the fronts
