That imo is the idea, to boost sales and get it back in the press. They have done it with other mark Golfs all the way down the line.
Mk6 GTI  &  Mk1 GTI

The Edition 30 had a good few years before the MK6 came out? 2006-2009, where as the ED35 is going to have 2 years if that.

We all know how quickly models age when the new model comes out and prices follow...

For some strange reason, and it may be a UK only thing, but Golfs seem to sell strongest in their last year or two of production. Using the ED35 as a run out model of what is essentially now an 8 year old car and a four year old plus K04 motor must make pretty sound financial sense for VW.

And look at how sort after run out model become in the future its the models people seem to want..
Run out mk1 campaigns
Run out mk2 8V
.
.
Pirelli runout mk5
etc.

People seem to pay a premium for runout models when they get older. Im having problems finding a good runout mk2 before there snapped up by someone else looking but a year older and there much cheaper.

RickS - as per my last post,VW seem to have "adjusted" the configurator in the last 2 weeks,if you check again its now possible to have Dynaudio with the RCD510 together with DAB,which was the situation originally.
I haven't checked again yet, but can you now get DAB with the RNS510? Just checked and you can't have DAB with the RNS510.

No,still not possible to have DAB with the RNS unit as has always been the case, but you can with the RCD510 - and the RCD510 is all you have
to spec to get Dynaudio irrespective of DAB which was the case from the launch of the MK6 until I checked the configurator about 2 weeks ago
and it looked like VW were forcing people to order the RNS510 simply to get Dynaudio, but its now changed back i.e. you only need to order RCD510 as a minimum to get Dynaudio.Probably just teething problems after a configurator update !

In all seriousness when do we expect to see a UK landed mk7 GTi, assumming the mk7 is launched at Geneva in March 2012, we would see UK order books open in say June, and then the first deliveries of TDi's in September.

Safe bet to see a GTi preview at Worthersee 2012 and release at Frankfurt 2012?

Then orders open October for deliveries Jan 2013?

Does that look realistic? or do we think its going to be early 2014 before we see a UK landed GTi Mk7?

I'll put my money on 2014. According to german press Golf VII will be out in 2013 and GTI in 2014. That would put RHD GTI in mid 2014.

I think we'll get a better idea once the new A3 breaks cover as the Golf will be about a year or so behind. It seems like forever that everybody has been saying there'll be a new A3 along in a minute ... I've still not seen anything other than educated guesses yet.

While mk6 (and other VAG models) are selling like hot cakes they will not introduce new ones.
