Pattern brackets on genuine bumpers...

The top screw holes line up but the bottom two don't. So just the top two holes are holding the bracket on. Still works but in the end i made some extra brackets.

I found this too, so I used the bottom half of the genuine bracket and 'plastic welded' (ie; attacked with a soldering iron :grin: ) them together;

When I repaired mine I drilled out the plastic rivets then used short screws to reattach the new bracket, worked fine :)

Thats what I had been thinking about... Not sure that a Glue would hold it in place...

Maybe a belts & Buckle option of using both!! :grin:

The Glue would definatly hold it! its designed to retain windscreens after airbags have been deployed :shocked:

I dont Doubt You - But just feel that glue on it's own is not enough and if you get the screws in as well its a double safe bet!!

i too have this problem with my rear p/s bumper bracket, the actual guide clip is snapped clean off, i was thinking of getting a genuine bracket from another bumper then gluing, plastic welding and screwing it on with stainless screws, just to make sure its solid. i know 3m make a glue/resin/ plastic 2 part mix which is used for repairing broken headlight tabs and such, its used to repair these instead of replace for new in insurance claim repairs, but i cant remember the name of it, but it is excellent stuff, hope this helps! :smiley:

Right - Been Thinking about this for the last week and met a Guy today who came to pick up some parts from a MK2 I'm breaking and he wanted a bumper slider bracket also as his G60 has the same problem - Turns out he's a VW mechanic and told me how they do them at work and this is what I have just done today and I'm very happy with the results...

Tools Needed;

Broken Bracket....

Cut it into quarters;

Nick the wife's kitchen flame thrower (Whilst she's not looking)!!!

Heat up the bent over plastic and pull them off leaving a nice amount of plastic on he bracket (Careful not to over heat them and damage the paintwork)

Put New Bracket in Place;

Now Heat up the star socket and bend over the remaining plastic from the mounts;

Use some stainless steel self taper screws;

Re-attach the bumper to the car.... Stand back and admire the finished job!!!  :laugh:
