Question for the Anal Retentive - Like Me!!!!
« on: 01 September 2011, 00:39 »
OK - So who has tried to fix the side mounts on a Genuine OEM Bumper???

I've just had mine re-sprayed and noticed tonight that the rear - Drivers side bumper bracket at the top has bust so it's now not sitting properly (sagging like an old pair of Boobs).... So Annoying for the Anal Retentive like me...

I see the Original hangers are sort of heated up and bent over like rivets to keep them in place - I have a number of genuine spare bumpers and I don't mind wrecking one to get a bracket off - but how do I re-attach it?? Rivets or Screws???

Anyone got any tips or pictures????

Get yourself a windscreen bonding kit, and bond it back in place...

Never on a Golf bumper, but plenty of other bumpers and trims etc in the past... DONT use PU sealer/Tiger seal, its sh!t!
use this stuff.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WINDSCREEN-GLASS-REPLACEMENT-BONDING-ADHESIVE-GLUE-CAR-/220435515414?pt=UK_Body_Shop_Supplies_Paint&hash=item3352fb0816#ht_1170wt_907

When I repaired mine I drilled out the plastic rivets then used short screws to reattach the new bracket, worked fine :)

Thats what I had been thinking about... Not sure that a Glue would hold it in place...

Maybe a belts & Buckle option of using both!!

Same.

Fibreglass wont work, Tigerseal is pants as above.

In the past ive also used pattern part bumper brackets that screw into the bumper.

Pattern brackets on genuine bumpers...

The top screw holes line up but the bottom two don't. So just the top two holes are holding the bracket on. Still works but in the end i made some extra brackets.

Local parts supplies have this bonding cement? Bonds metals and all sorts. Worth checking (forgot the name but they have demos on the counter)

The Glue would definatly hold it! its designed to retain windscreens after airbags have been deployed
