Fibre glassing and repairs.
« on: 30 August 2011, 12:35 »
Hey Guys.

Been looking into smoothing the boot badge (not handle) on MK4s (when i finally pick mine up on the weekend! delayed payment thanks to the bank holiday)

Ive seen people use that expanding foam that is used on building sites to fill holes in walls and then shaping that, then fibre glassing over the top and finishing with a couple of layers of filler. Is this the best way for it?
Any links or advice would be a great help.

Also on the rear bumper there is a slight chunk taken out from where something has been dragged out of the boot, would it be best to just smooth over with body filler and sanding back? (its is very slight but im picky)

All help is greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt recommend using fibreglass on metal as it has little or no key and will crack or craze around the joint.

no, weld metal plate into the recess as flush as possible to the rest of the boot, grind down welds, thin skim of filler
