front struts from a 1.4, to fit a TDI 130?
« on: 23 August 2011, 19:25 »
Hi,

I am looking to replace the front shocks and springs on my Mk4 TDI 130. I know a guy who has some from his old MK4 1.4 petrol - but can anyone please tell me if these will be the same fit?

I just thought the TDI might be heavier so may use an uprated set of shoocks and springs but I am unsure?

I cant look at lowering ones as I'll bottom out on my drive way - so I need to get original OEM hight struts / shocks

any advice would be a great help  :undecided:

Will fit but won't work as you correctly surmised that the TDI engine is much heavier

Welcome to the forum by the way

Thanks for that

I will take a look there

Would you say its wise to change springs at the same time or would just the shocks be ok?

are gas better than oil for shocks?

If you're knocking on 100K I'd replace the lot.  I had a spring snap on my Golf at approx 83K; when the others were removed it looked like the other one was about to do the same!!

Don't forget to change the topmounts too; much easier to replace everything in one go as it will save you money in the long run
