gearbox
« on: 21 August 2011, 15:18 »
hey guys, been under the car and this is the code on my gearbox

i've a couple of issues, the car is having problems getting into gear,
a couple of times it's grinded at standstill to go into first, and when driving i've to move the lever between the first and 5th gear area then just slip it in,

i aslo asked earlier about adjusting the clutch cable, i was asked if it was auto or manual tensioner, what would you guys say it is???

One final Question, where exactly is the top oil filler hole on this box? i've found the bottom one but not the top

Could well be gear oil level that is causing you problems. If not, go for a new linkage kit before starting to worry about a new gearbox. What engine do you have, as that is just a serial number I think. I ask as different gearboxes filler caps are located in different places. With regard to your clutch cable, move the camera up a bit!
Where the bare cable comes in through the bracket above the clutch release mechanism, just above that is where the adjustable nut is (I think) for a manual adjust cable. If its an auto one, it will have a sort of cylindrical tube, with a ribbed top on it.

the father in law found one on the top which is what is next to what looks like a breather, could this be it? I'll post a picture later, along with the rest of the clutch cable

this is the top of my clutch cable

this is the top of my gearbox (note the nut on the top - could that be the filler) the small plastic cap looks like a breather pipe also

the place to fill the gearbox is on the end of the box you fill it by removing the passenger wheel can't remember which bolt it is though should be the highest one (i think) can you take a pic of that side of the box?

Just done mine. It's a 17mm hex just to the right of the green disk that is the end of the box. Yes that is also an auto adjust cable.

whatever you do, don't fill it from the green cap on the top of the box!!!!!!
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.
