Silverline Rotary any good?
« on: 19 August 2011, 09:25 »
This one

I was gonna ask the missus to get it for me at xmas. I'm a noob to detailing, but understand that a DA will be better for beginners. Rotarys are cheaper and give better/quicker results though (if the user is competant obviously) so I would rather get one of these, and just practice on some old panels. So are these any good, or am I better off spending a bit more to get the DJ one, or should I really really get a DA?
Cheers!

Half a dozen times a year at most probably with mine and the missus's car. Then again, probs a few family members and friends cars if I'm any good with it, so the first year maybe a few more than that, but its just personal use so not too much.

With rotarys.. The same as anything, you get what you pay for.. I've got a festool but it comes with a longer guarantee and 48hr turnaround.

If you can up your budget then do so.. Or go cheap this time and if you find it indispensable then trade up when this one conks out! :)

Cheers Guy. Dont think my budget will stretch as far as a festool but will ask the missus nicely for a decent one. She was gonna get me a Kindle so I may be able to stretch to something a little better, but will obviously need products to use it with so will look into the kits. Thanks again!

I have the exact same model, I've been using it for just over a year now and find it works really well Sean.

With most things, it depends on the polish(s) that your using aswell, but I find that buying the sponges and polish off Ebay is so much cheaper than buying in the shops.

The Silverline is a great budget machine.

When you are ready to order, give me a shout and i'm sure I can put a little kit together and sort you a deal out on one

Cheers FG, nowhere down here does any detailing equipment that I know of, except halfrauds so I will have to get it online anyway. Will have a look about for the consumables after I get it.
