Fuel filter is under the car by driver's side rear wheel. Is it 8 or 16v? I think the 16 has solid pipe connections which makes it harder job.

Piece of piss to do. Just make sure you use grips or a spanner on the filter ends when undoing the unions, or you'll spin the whole lot and damage your fuel lines. Same applies when refitting, grip the filter as you tighten the banjos. Stick your head under the sill, in front of the o/s rear wheel and you'll see the assembly, the filter is the big canister on its side, but you'll figure that as you'll have the new filter to hand..

It's a canister resembling a coke can in dimension, or there abouts.  It is held by a wrap over clamp.  The bolt to undo the clamp is a b!tch!.

There is a pipe going into the filter at each end.  These are held on by bolts attached to the end of the fuel lines.  The end of the fuel lines are threaded and the bolts secure the joints.

Take care when undoing the bolts as you do not want to spin or damage/twist/bend the fuel lines.

BE PREPARED for fuel leaking from the filter and pipes. Have a bowl or towel handy.

Remove the filter. Fit the new one and screw in the fuel lines at either end.

They need to be super tight to stop leaks.  But do them up slowly.

Remove the fuel pump fuse and run the car until it cuts out, this will release the pressure in the fuel system
