Yeah ok was using my phone! I am military by the way, and a weapon engineer, so I know a little more than most.

The size of exocet is not all that, same as Harpoon, designed for the same thing pretty much, with harpoon having a range a little more. (70 - 120 miles dependant on movement whilst in the air. (It turns a pre-programmed co-ordinates before coming onto the contact from whichever side or from above). Trident is bigger but again, a single missile wont sink a carrier. None of these would, but the fires/floods/damage they caused by them can. A hole in the side of a ship with an explosion contained in a smallish area (all doors and hatches would be closed if in any situation where they are likely to be fired at you), is not gonna sink a ship, let alone an aircraft carrier. Loss of salt water fire main, with raging fires will though. And anymore than 1 missile would be too much also. Its actually quite difficult to get through with one or two missiles in a reasonably modern warship, with Chaff - no not chuff, DLB (acronym for a big radar reflective orange ball), and Phalanx or goalkeeper (phalanx being an american designed 6 barrel, radar aided self defence gun, capable of 3700 rounds per minute. Goalkeeper a Dutch designed gun of the same thing with 7 barrels, and is more intelligent. Can track up to 20 targets simultaniously, and prioritise which will hit first, second, third etc and take them out with 3 second bursts of 4200 rounds of 30mm per minute. (70 per second). Thats a Feck load of lead in the way! Oh and there is also a 4.5 inch Gun, seawolf, seadart, and seaviper depending on type of ship, as well as miniguns, and GPMGs, 20mm or 30mm gatling guns on the upperdeck. 4.5 is quite accurate, directed by geopod which manually tracks incoming targets by sight during the day, or by IR at night. People on the upperdeck with the guns are obviously pretty unlikely to hit a missile coming directly at you at mach 1,2,3 etc, but may get lucky, although the rate of fire of the minigun is pretty impressive also. (cant remember the exact rate of fire, something around 2k rounds per minute I think).
