vw polo 6n2 alloy wheel trouble
« on: 05 August 2011, 20:34 »
evening, my first post/topic so my apologies if its misplaced already been posted etc, did have a check but couldn't find any answers.
after a long metaphorical journey I've spent a lot of money trying to sort out alloys and tyres for my x reg polo, and am currently running 195/50/15 tires of which not a single pattern or profile matches, similarly with my wheels i run et35 basket weaves on the back with no trouble, and a pair of steelies on the front, et43 (abit tight but okay) however my gf curbed/crippled one of my steelies, and for the last few days i've had to run an et50 replacement (scrubbed so now fitted a spacer to make it et45)
as my 2yo sister is a frequent passenger, i desperately want to get my wheels sorted once and for all, so i've decided to invest in one of the pre-balanced sets from halfords.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_759303_langId_-1_categoryId_165649
this is the set i decided on during a quick look, and they look alot better in person than they do in the photo.
they are typical vw 4 stud, so 4x100 and have a big enough center bore for the 57.1 hub, and are offset 38mm

The guy said they wouldn't fit because of the offset, and said to ask you guys on this forum because he wasn't sure.

i've had a look on the wheel fitment guides posted on another topic, and 38 is the extreme of the range that fits polos.

ultimately i'm looking for advice as to whether they'll fit, ideally any experiences people have had with similar situations of offset wheel etc.

finally, a pic ofc

if you're still reading, then thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, and welcome... If i'm honest, i dont like any of the wheels that halfords do, but thats my opinion, and your choice... Have you considered something like genuine VW G60 steel wheels? they are dirt cheap, look good, and dead easy to get a replacement if one gets damaged, smooth center caps, or a small black cap that covers the hub, look great with a wide low profile tire...

And... not the best pic, sorry

i quite like the styles but not sure about the tacky shiny finish they all seem to have, have a mate who can powder coat them for me though, so should all be good once they're a nice matt neutral finish :)

thanks for the replies, not really into the steelie look unless the car is lowered, and my insurance is void in the case of any performance mods, including suspension mods, so its a no go for the moment, have got some springs sitting in my garage though for a drop when my insurance finally runs out, will be nice to get a proper policy and my first years no claims discount
meanwhile though halfords seem to be the best budget option as they include tires, taking the cost of 4 new tires off the price it works out as 25 quid a rim, an offer i can't turn down

so meanwhile i have found some vws on the fitting list,

Volkswagen Corrado 4 Stud 89>93 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 803353
Volkswagen Golf I / Cabrio 76>98 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 803353
Volkswagen Golf II 84>98 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 803353
Volkswagen Golf III 84>98 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 803353
Volkswagen Jetta II 84>98 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 803353
Volkswagen Jetta III 84>98 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 803353
Volkswagen Passat 4 stud 88>97 4x100 N/A OK NO OK NO K209 80335

and a nicer set of alloys with offset 35 which was the original from my stock steelies, im still worried though as my et35 basket weaves scrub the calipers - any idea if the layout of calipers in relation to the wheel hub is the same on polos and corrado/golfs/jettas/passats?

Et35 will be fine :afro:

Halfords alloys on the other hand are well worth avoiding.
