getting an 8v to rev faster

register with clubgti and look for hotgolf, he did mine and as i needed it fast the turn around was fast and i got p1ssed around with farcels2go.

you could do a 20VT swap fro a decent price if you choose the 150bhp lump out of something like a mk4 GTI, With a remap you would be looking at around 190 hp

or even cheaper u could wack a VR lump under your hood..

Whats the standard weight on a 8v flywheel? I thought the were lightened and the 16v were heavier ...i was led to believe.

Around 10kg I think. Looking at previous threads, the flywheels are lightened to around 6kg.

4 branch manifold, ported head, ported throttle body

to make it rev faster it needs to be able to take air in at a greater rate with least resistance and to do the same getting it out

Its only expensive if you dont do it yourself, porting can be done fairly easily.
4 branch is a bit more difficult, but something to save up for after you have done all the free/cheap bits.
I would like to add, most modifying costs are relative to how handy you are.
On N/A engines you can achive a fair bit on a low budget if you have the time and dedication in doing so. in that lies the reason it is easier to stick a turbo lump in, more power at more cost but less time in the garage

Breathing helps the car rev more responsive.

My mate just fitted some carbs to his mk1. It barks at you lol rev needle goes straight up, and straght back down.

£69 including return delivery. He said I should have it back by the end of the week provided it arrives in good time. (tracking progress still says processing though  ) Cost me nearly £15 to send it through royal mail!

I actually had those two written down next to 'lighten flywheel' on my 'to do' list. In my excitement of being paid I just ran off to the closest post office to send it though. 

Update; ooh ooh! Just had a PM from Mart (hotgolf). Flywheel arrived at his today, already done and booked to be collected in the morning. Should have it Thursday or Friday! Muchly excited now!!!

He has same engine in his LCR as what i have in my golf

its night and day difference between his engine and how it revs and yours

To be fair after running up boneybradleys 1.8T followed by my 8v on The Doc's dyno a few weeks ago it was pretty impressive how much quicker the 1.8T revs in comparison to the 8v, it's just a sluggish engine

Only if you know what you're doing, ameteur porting attacking the head with a dremel is more likly to make it worse

Granted, but if someone came to you and asked you how it was done you would help them on the right way.
Time and manners can get you a long way, most petrol heads will help you out just for the return of the favour or a few cups of tea
