got a new camera :-)
« on: 26 July 2011, 14:39 »
... well a new/old camera.

decided against a full blown dslr for the time being and found a canon A1000 IS on the ebay for £25.00 delivered.

basically decided on this to have a play around with and get back into the basics of photography again and for the price i paid i couldnt resist.

so going to get some shots over the coming week and will be posting them up for your critique

ps i will be saving up for something much better i just couldnt afford to splash out on a dslr at the moment.

Not bad for the price.
It's a cheap way to learn about the basics of image composition. Once you've got better with that, then you can progress to cameras with more controls and options.

There are plenty of tricks for using a compact camera so that you can get good photos out of them, learning how to use the different modes to best effect.

Anyway, get snapping and enjoy.

get photoshop or the GIMP, lightroom is just a wrapper for adobe camera raw, which is a very powerful tool, however it's quite limited in that you're applying adjustments to the whole image, you use the adjustment brush to zone areas but without layers it's quite limited in comparision.  Really you want lightroom and photoshop or photoshop and learn how to use camera raw

i agree cs5 is better than LR but it is becoming a pain to get hold of

gimp is quite a big program so you will need a decent laptop (buy a desktop!)

is it?

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop

apparently the problem is getting a key and patching the hosts file

anything with an i5 or i7 chip and at least 4GB of RAM :afro: ideally you'll want an GPU that supports the acceleration in PS too
