Take care, ive been run over three times.
Join the cycling federation and get insurance, Wear a helmet and dont ride like a knob.
Dont rush or jump lights etc, watch out for drivers who dont like bikes and grind you into the kerb.
Have proper lights and some LED flashers, look then indicate and never take chances.
Choose your route to work wisely.

If you ride with your ipod on then you deserve to learn your lesson the hard way

I ride with my iPod on quietly and I've not been run over once... Let alone 5 times!

You are obviously an inconsiderate road user, riding with an ipoo on risks your life and other road users.
Sorry but these are the facts.
I used to ride 150 miles a week through london, although unlucky being run over 3 times this is not un common at all.
In london you will see flowers at every cross road and painted white bikes chained to railings, most of the accidnts were avoidable save for things like ipoo's and stupid car/bike drivers

They call them zombie cyclists/drivers/walkers because they miss out on so much information from their surroundings and this is why they get involved in accidents.

Get cycling, Shady.  I ride to work pretty much every day and it is good for you physically - avoids all that going to the gym nonsense and it is good for you mentally - gives you a bit of head space between work and getting home.

150 miles a week in London - you clearly had a death wish!
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

+1

spend the time you'd spend in the car / train on a bike for your commute, saves you time, money gets you out in the fresh air and sunshine* and keeps you fit, plus it's an excuse to wear lycra and shave your legs  :lipsrsealed:

No it is not a good buy, cheap new (£99) bikes are a waste of time, they weigh a ton and are poor quality, most only last 3mths if your lucky, then when it needs repairs it will end up costing you more than buying it.

Spend £200 on something s/h that is better quality.

I've raced bmx and ridden mountain bikes for over 20 years and worked in an independent high end cycle store and this is one of best pieces of advice you can give to a new cyclist. Cheap bikes are sh!t and false economy - avoid!
