Rear Speakers Not getting enough power???

I Got Sum cheap speakers JBL from Halfords to replace my standard MK2 one's, but evertime I turn up the Volume the rears distort like they are loosing AMP's but the fronts are fine??? 

The speakers sound great (At low Vol)

The Head unit is a Sony CD-FX5500

Do I need an AMP, as the head unit has a 3v connector that I guess is to power an AMP???

Are you talking about direct-fit 6x4s? In which case they could be distorting because of their positioning (they could be too close to the shelf supports, causing them to distort/rattle/make various unhealthy noises. Am currently having the same problem with some 6x4 Infinitys I fitted...cutting my losses and changing to 6x9s instead.

Yep direct fit 6x4, did some playing & they work fine with the radio loud, but CD, MP3 distort badly, tried swapping connectors over on thespeakers no joy

you should ditch the rears and get a sub, i think that anything other than a sub in the rear is pointless, im sure ill get slated for this post but it is just my opinion!

No mate, you stand up for what you think is right...COZ IT IS!!!

Think about it mate, all speakers in the back do is drag the centre of the sound to the middle of the car and, lets be honnest, who sits there!?!

Just stick with fronts, then get an amp and sub for the back. Your sound quality will increase dramatically and youl be a happy bunny!

I've got the same problem, the rear speakers are new and just distort the moment a bit of bass comes their way. And we are not talknig particulary high volumes.

I dont want cut outs - i just want the existing position speakers to sound a bit better. I was going to buy some new speakers at the weekend, but i may unscrew them and see if that improves them at all and see if your idea about distortion is correct.

One thing i dont want is a base tube in the car though. i just want something that doesn't break up when pushing the volume a little bit.

Trust us, just because you have a sub doesnt make you a chav or anything like that. The best way to get good quality sound is to get some good front component speakers, a decent sub and an amp to power it all. You will notice a huge difference at all volumes, not just when you turn it up.

If your unsure then go to your local car audio place and get them to give you some demo's. Should help you out.

Alternatively, if you are goin to inters on the sunday (8th may) Come and find me and il show you what i mean!
