that welding on the sheet repair sections looks sick, as do all the curved sheet repairs!

how thick is the datsun tin sheet? i do mainly hondas and its a pig for distortion because its just so dammed thin

aaran its a 240Z so rather old now and made when thicker steel was used generally in most cars!

He also uses a very good welder which helps

cant see the welder so no idea what it is lol

we run a 3 phase industrial size west mig and a small thermal arc tig, those welds are very very nice, no shrinkage or stretching along the weld lines either. i really want a 240z, its probably the only car i would sell my crx for on the spot, should have got one 5 years ago before the prices on semi decent ones went stupid, still more panel availability than the crx ones though! (even if pricey)

Hi Aaran,

The original sheet metal is stupidly thin actually - one of the main reasons these cars rusted months after leaving the production line. All the new repair panels you can buy are a SLIGHTLY thicker gauge.

Some updates at last...well not much of one but Frank finally got the materials and space and we took the car to his workshop today...
