What spec are you building the cage to Dan ?

Drag racing! This cage will be good for 9.99 seconds or quicker (down to 8.5 I believe) if I have the correct requirements elsewhere in the car which I wont as I dont realy ever intend running that quick - but it's there if I do.

Everything on the car will be spec'd for down to a 10 second car:

10.99 1/4-mile (6.99 1/8-mile) or quicker:

-5-point roll bar is still okay to 10.00 1/4-mile (6.40 1/8-mile) in hardtop / t-top with un-altered floors, firewall and frame rails (wheel tubs are okay). If the floor and/or firewall has been modified, then a full roll cage is required beginning at a 10.99 e.t. or any vehicle running 135 mph or faster (regardless of e.t.). The roll cage must be constructed of a minimum o.d. mild steel or chrome moly tubing (moly can be a smaller o.d and is lighter but more expensive), see diagram below for specs. Roll cage must be padded anywhere the driver's helmet may contact it while in the driving position, see diagram below for specs.

-Convertibles require full roll cage at 10.99 and quicker.
See diagram below.

-aftermarket axles with positive retention (c-clip eliminators)

-Transmission shield SFI Spec 4.1 at 10.99 and quicker or 135 mph and quicker (blanket is okay, no expiration date)

-Harmonic Balancer SFI Spec 18.1 (no expiration date)

Not sure how I get around the aftermarket axles - I already will have non genuine but I will need to look in to it a bit more! Wont be competitively racign for soem time yet though!

The cage should also pass most FIA regulations too I think.

Just going to skip straight past a load of the build ... if you want to have a read please go to ukmkivs.

Managed to get the car on wheels at last and roll it outside to give the workshop a clean out...

Moved it back in...waiting for the engine and gearbox to be placed in now and mounts made up...

Reluctantly then started to take the engine out of the Camaro - was an absolute blast to drive around for a month in. Honestly - these do handle pretty well in standard form considering its 14 years old! Thanks to the besties for helping out this day... Impossible job to be done on its own. You literally have to take the engine and gearbox out with the cradle whilst the car is in the air - the cars are built around the engine...stupid design and poor engineering..

Then it was time to start on the wiring loom. Lots I didnt need with my conversion so pulled the whole lot apart and cut out all the bits I didn't need....quite a lot of wiring can be thrown away...

Once I had cut it out I could drape it around the engine to get it roughly how I wanted...

To be able to start and run the engine I needed to disable VATS (known to us english folk as the immobiliser system). This is a bit of a trick really, you can either buy a $700 program to do it or a small black box that does the trick...fortunately for me someone had already bought one of those box's in american and decided to strip it down... so I nipped to Maplins...bought all the parts and made my own...

I could then...start the engine [;)]

All my parts ordered yesterday (gearbox/flywheel/fuel pump/mastercylinder etc) but the clutch was on backorder so got to wait a wee bit longer for that...Hopefully will have everything but that next Tuesday... so can get mocking up in the car.
