No interest whatsoever??
« on: 19 July 2011, 11:57 »
Hi Guys, you very kindly gave some advise regarding where to advertise my GTI for sale a couple of weeks and I duly did so at both Pistonheads and Ebay classified and to date I've not had a single call.  Here's a link to the ad, any comments?  does it look ok?, the format ok? price?  Any feedback would be great

Cheers

It's the price that people aren't keen on. I sold my 2010 plate 5 door last week with DSG and a fair few extras for £20500 so I think that you're looking at £18000 tops for yours.

I would say you need to make the add a little more personal. It just reads like spec list. Tell a story about it. When and where you bought it from, number of owners, especially if you bought it from new, tell us about how well you have looked after it and why you are selling it.

Also more pictures would be good. Interior pictures showing the upgrade radio etc and wheels pictures showing the condition of them.

Finally the price. For a private sale, it seem a bit on the high side to me. Granted, it is very nicely speced with low mileage, but it's still getting on for £20k. People spending that sort of money would generally prefer to go to a dealer rather than take a punt on a private sale.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Spot on.

Firstly keep in mind that anyone buying private with that sort of money is out for a bargain.
Secondly most people spending around £20k on a car will need some sort of finance and will have a car to get shot of themselves. So they will generally go to a dealer unless as above, they spot a bargain.
Pistonheads is a good place to look for sporty stuff but it is a nightmare to wade through. Autotrader is trusted and easy to navigate. Push the car's condition and how well you looked after it in the advert. Pictures sell cars though. Yours are very good, but as above, you need interior shots too.

Be patient, there aren't that many people with £20k to spend on a second hand car in this present climate (depending on where you live etc).

See what a dealer offers you and price it about a grand above that and be prepared to take about £500 above the dealer price would be my educated guess. GTIs are dropping heavily at the moment, and so are many other things.

Although a nice looking car, the ad is very 'flat', no 'emotive' words! What's it like to drive, who does the servicing and is it on longlife or time/interval. What does the sound system sound like?? etc...
As already mentioned, take some internal shots, especially of the dash, seats and In car Audio.... And one of the (hopefully!) clean boot showing it's first aid pack/warning triangle etc.

And yes, the price is too high... I recently paid £22k ish for a 10 plate from a dealer with 10k mls on the clock.
My recently sold 02 plate Bora PD150 went for only £2k, I was hoping for £2.5k, the bottoms dropped out of the second hand market I think, people just don't want to spend their dosh cos they're afraid of what's coming up in the recession!

Good Luck!
Mk VI Black Pearl GTD.... No Frills, replaced a Black Pearl PD150 Bora, which in turn replaced a Dragon Green VR6 which followed a Dusty Mauve MK III 8v Gti.

The price is a little high compared to whats on Autotrader at the moment.  Your price isn't far off a couple of similar spec cars to those at VW dealers.

You'll have to price it so that the price will tempt them away from the dealers arms.

Great looking car though, I hope you sell it soon.
