Andy and I debated for 30 secs who should start this thread. As I am a tad unpopular and he is much loved, he carried the mantle.
I am a petrolhead and as I don't give a stuff about fuel economy, as don't do many miles, as I don't mind visiting petrol stations where I do most of my prowling, as I rather have the smoothest and quietest engine for my fast enough shopping trolly, as I have a Diesel Mercedes, I prefer the icon which is the GTI which suits my sensibilities.
Nothing wrong with this and nothing wrong in preferring a GTD if that's what floats your boat. But you all know it is NOT a GT with an 'I'. And there is nothing wrong with a bit of snob value.
what he said.....
My 25th Anni was a diesal and whilst it was a great looking car, I missed the feel of a petrol engine - they way you can rev the nutz of it right up to the redline. In a the diesal I always felt the range of revs where the power was delivered was to short.
My mates used to wind me up all the time as well and say it's not a real GTI because it was an oil burner - this was guys that don't have any love for the GTI badge but their opinion was that if it's not a petrol then it's not a real GTI.
Yeah, but your mates aren't paying your fuel bills and if you want to go round revving the nuts off it you're obviously not going to be a Diesel driver for very long. I don't have any mates so would have nothing to worry about!
