Your car will run best on the fuel it was designed for. My 1990 Digifant Mk2 has a sticker on the inside of the fuel filler flap that states 98 RON. Look in the owners manual as well.

Running a car on a higher octane fuel than it was designed for will not boost your performance, it will only empty your wallet faster.

Running a car on a lower octane level than it was designed for, will sacrifice a little performace.

The RON rating does not determine fuel 'quality' OR power output as i said above.

RON = Research Octane Number

Here's the science

Even t'up north the price is a rip off, filled up last night, 91.9p a litre ! WTF ! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask eh !  :angry: You know it's getting bad when the price display on the pump nearly goes round as fast as the litre display.  :angry: If this was the USA there would be out and out anarchy, they get pissed off when they pay 35c a litre or something.  :angry: Rant over.  :smiley:
:laugh: :laugh: :laugh: Even worse here 93.9p a litre im thinking of going into the fuel buisiness.... :lipsrsealed:
started putting 91 ron into the shed aint noticed any difference.  :laugh: :laugh: :sad: :cry: :tongue:

I think it might be time for a group buy on a feckin huge tub of octane booster apiece or a liitle tip guys Sainsburys super unleaded is only 81.9 up here in sunny huddersfield and its 97 RON which is the same as BP ultimate (which is an average by the way) and Shell Optimax if you notice LRP is also 97 Ron, I've filled up with BP, Shell and Sainsburys and the only difference is the fuel consumption
Worst = Shell optimax 156 miles to 35 litres £34.50
Then = BP ultimate 189 miles to 35 litres £32.75
Best = Sainsburys super duper unleaded 264 miles to 35 litres £28.00

I haven't noticed any difference in performance and i do notice little things like that  ( I had a small leaf on my air filter and noticed she wasn't been as quick i overtake the same guys every morning :) ) but normal unleaded and I feel like I bought an 8 valve by mistake!

 I'm getting sick to death of rip off britain 85% tax last time I heard I mean if the tax on beer was that much then ...... oh it nearly is! and less than 200 miles per £30 is fappin mental. wait for the black boxes  :evil: :evil: :evil: ok point made rant over.

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

Nice tip monza, Sainsbury's super unleaded might be an idea next time, worth a try for over a 10p saving per litre (I'm in sunny Leeds/Bradford by the way so not that far from you).  :smiley:
......now officially dubless.
