Well after much work, the problem is a micro switch.

Electrically, it's a very simple module. It really is nothing more than microswitches and a small motor, that's it.

Some solder joints were dodgy and were re-soldered, the micro switch I cut out, to get me out of trouble for now. The switch says the door is open when the contacts are closed, so cutting it out will stop the contsant 'beep drivers door open' and the fuel pump from priming 100 times a day.

Just chucking it back together, reckon I'll leave the door card off as when I put it on I couldn't open the door from inside as for some reason there's some slack on the steel cable that goes to the mechanics of the lock. Pulling the end of the cable opens the door, but I have to pull it further.

Don't know if I can get this actual micro switch that will fit properly, so I may well have to just get a new module, but was worth a try.

Well great attempt hope ya get it sorted, just a q thou, what were the symptoms for you doing this?? Was it cos the door always appeard open??

I've got tons of photos too. But I can't really do a write up as it wasn't a job put to bed, although I did identify the issue.

I feel absolutely shattered now. Chucking it down outside.

It began with the interior lights only sometimes coming on when the door was open, the car locking itself after I've opened the door (dodgy ground if you're not in there but your keys are).

Then it finally got worse as the door was electrically always open, which meant I couldn't use the key fob to lock, the alarm would go off if for some reason the switch became unstuck.

Very annoying as the dash was always bleeping at me about the door being open, really hacked me off. My passengers would ask what the hell that bleeping alarm was as it was doing their nut in too.

So now with the switch cut out, there's no more bleepy bleepy or alarm going off, I can use the keyfob now, BUT I must keep the key with me, as the car will not know that I've opened the door, so unless I engage the ignition, it'll lock the doors.

I've got an idea.

I'll have a go at saving the moola, by getting a micro switch from RS and I'll make it fit. It'll work alright, but I'll either alraldite it in place or use some M2 bolts. Sod paying £120 for a module, which is what VW quoted me last week. Only reason I never got one, is I have to order it as they don't keep it, but I never managed to order it as they won't place orders over the phone.

Once that's done, I'll have a write up for you chaps that the mods can sticky if they like it.
