top strut mounts

I appoligise if this has been asked already but i need a quick answer.

How do you undo the top strut mount? i have removed the two bolts that go through the hub but now i have to drop the struts, i have done it on many fords which have the three nuts and bolts holding the strut up but on my golf the is only the 22mm nut with the allen key but i am a bit wary because isnt that holding all the tension in the spring?

Or is there another nut under that one?

If you mean the nut above the cup thingy in the engine bay.

There is another nut under that holds the tension.

Yes you have another nut, you will also need spring compressors to release the main top nut.

I have spring compresors done a few suspensions before just never on a VW

The one that holds the top mount on, the one under the bonnet only holds the top plate.
