do i HAVE to have an amp on my sub?
« on: 01 July 2011, 18:32 »
when i took this cd player out of my old car it was running without an amp with a single sub, today ive managed to get a twin sub for a good price, bought the fitting kit ( for silly money :( ) and came home from halfords with instructions from the sales asst that it would be ok to strip one end of the phono ( thick blue) lead, so did this, connected it to the head unit and battery... anyway messed about for ages, havent managed to blow anything ( yet) but peeved as its just not happening!! well one speaker moved a few times)

surley there is a muppits guide out there to wiring one of these buggers in, in under 3 days??  :undecided:

ive probably forgot to tell you something ( or left it out in fear of looking like a tit :p ) so if u need anymore info then please ask away :)
shelagh x

have looked at connecting thru an amp and boy it looks easy lol..shame they cost so much

What equipment do you have?

Generally a sub will have a high power rating of say 100wrms or more. Most HU's will only put out 15-25wrms ish per channel at 4 ohms.

Also a sub requires only low frequencies a HU speaker out will send all frequencies which will damage your sub and sound poop.

What "fitting kit" have you got?
What CD player?
What Single sub?
What double sub?
Is it active?
Why on earth go to halfords for audio lol?

this is why I asked if it was active. You wire the amp to the HU not the sub but because the amp is on the sub box some people get confused.
